for a pizza party themed playdate we had last weekend, i made the kids these dish towel aprons. i swear they are super easy and cheap. i bought the dish towel at a grocery store nearby, cut its upper corner, added bias tape for the neck - one big button on the waist area - and not to forget, the kid's initial from felt. and just like that, it's done.

but if you want your dish towel apron to be more adjustable, feel free to go with bias tape for the waist. am not sure if the kids loved their aprons, but they didn't take them off for quite some time. surely that meant something, no?

well, at least it was a getaway for me and the champ while the husband had to attend a business meeting in the hotel we were staying in. i mean, who can ever resist a free vacay? not moi of course, hence the tagging along part :D the hotel's pool was reaaally nice, yuara couldn't hide his excitement. i don't think he would come out of it if i wasn't there to pull him out.

and we went to kampung gajah too! i personally think that dufan is way better for kids at yuara's age, but we still tried on a couple of ride before heading back home. all in all, the trip was very amusing and refreshing - it might be the last one we had before the baby pops out in two more months! my oh my, how time flies when you're having fun ;)

have you tried spoon drawing with your kids? it really is a lot of fun! it all started pretty simple, yuara always gets bored when we eat at restaurants so i usually give him spoon and squirt some ketchup forming two eyes, one nose, and a mouth. and that spoon can keep him entertained until we all finish our food.

so i did the same thing for this project, but using wooden spoons and colorful markers. he was very much intrigued! although my son can't draw properly just yet, he had so much fun coloring them. i only drew faces and he would complete them with clothes to wear :D

yes i know holiday is over and yuara's school starts today, but am not done with the project yet. i still have a couple of activity left to post, but as usual was too busy taking some time off :P anyway i like this one the best, it was inspired by dreams of flying series of jan von holleben's photography.

i chose the circus theme based solely on props that were lying around the house. it was pretty simple, i just laid everything on the floor and snapped some pictures. and there it's done!

weeks ago i was invited to join crafter indonesia on facebook, so i did. and today we had our very first arisan gathering, it was really exciting to meet fellow crafters with similar hobby and interest. thanks a bunch to chesiria tattia who made it happen!

we basically discuss everything crafty so the topics were never worn off (by the way, yes that's me with my reaaally sexy lips :P). see you all again at my place next month for a simple mini frame workshop. i will be providing the frames, so please bring your own leftover fabric and cutter. for those of you who is interested but hasn't joined crafter indonesia yet, please leave a comment here and i'll see what i can do. cheers to new friends and new inspirations!

was a week ago, i know. but i hope it's not that late to wish you a happy new year! for new year's eve, we had our dinner and DVD tradition with the husband's high school gang. only this year we didn't do any photo booth session since we decided to watch thriller instead of horror (yeayness!). to keep the little ones spirited (at least until before midnight), i ordered felt burgers from cemprut. i was going to make them myself, but you know how preggers are :D

i made gordon ramsay's blue cheese burgers but they didn't get to the table because our menu was already too much - some of the RSVPs couldn't make it. hence we had so much to eat, it was a feast! no complaints here, though. for me, spending time with good friends (and good food) is always the best option to end a year - and i know you think so too. hope you had a fab NYE :)

when we finally made a getaway to ancol for a night. we went to dufan, segarra, gelanggang samudra, and stayed at mercure. i totally recommend the place for those of you with kids, they have sliding pool, kids pool, outdoor and indoor playground. yuara had the time of his life!

it was only two days, but i think yuara was pretty happy with the experience. he's always a beach boy who loves the sand more than anything. and he's pretty big now that he's brave enough to ride a plane alone. the husband and i, we watched him from sidelines with amusement :)

today, the champ and i decided to cook. this is not our first time because yuara always seems to enjoy helping me around the kitchen. he's my beloved sous-chef!

yuara reaaally likes prepping, he's usually the one who does the batter. i don't let him get too near to the stove, but he flips our pancakes and french toasts once in a while. i would never complain though as this particular activity makes him pratically lick his plate to the very last bit. i won't leave you with any recipes as i found mine on the internet, am sure you can do better :)

since yuara loves painting so much, i figured our second home project had to be the painted mask.

the champ and i, we spent most of our time in the backyard painting things. so today, i just let him painted the whole paper red (preferebly cardstock, but i was too lazy to reach for one) while i added blue details and cut it in a circle shape with two small holes for the eyes. it was really simple but highly entertaining!

as promised, this week i will be posting about simple home projects you can instantly make to keep the kid busy and entertained during holiday season. our first project was felt characters!

it all started when yuara found these googly eyes i'd been saving for rainy days. he insisted that we should make a happy face, so we did. one thing led to another, we ended up getting a boy and his dog. you just have to cut some felt or leftover fabric in several shapes and let the kid glue them altogether, no sewing needed! easy peasy lemon squeezy, we'll be back with more activities :D

family day 2011.

ever since last year, we decided to celebrate december 22nd (aka mother's day in indonesia) as family day. i mean, the father and the son play a huge part in making me the mother, right? so they deserve to be celebrated too! the rule is pretty simple, we should buy (or make) surprise gifts that we want others to wear whether they like it or not. i decided to make mine, mainly because i hardly go anywhere during this pregnancy but also because i've been meaning to get my hands on this diy no sew bow ties project since forever. they're extremely cute yet super easy.

i think the step-by-step pictures quite explain themselves. i made three, just incase i want to wear one too. not necessarily as a tie, but it can also work on a hair piece! as an exchange, the husband gave me a foot spray for my swollen feet. i must say it is the best gift for a pregger like me :D

before yuara started his holiday season (which was from earlier this week), he had one last themed day celebrated at school: the united nations day. for a whole week, his class was USA and on the last day, he was asked to dress as a cowboy. the parents were also asked to bring an american signature dish to school. but since i was still in the midst of my nausea, i just bought some washington apples, printed small american flags, and glued them onto a couple of toothpicks. i'd like to think that it's effortless but still very toughtful.

then, yuara came home with his very first passport and this picture of liberty statue. it's his debut of going around the world! i must say it's a smart activity, and you can do it at home with your kids too. since we're not going on a vacation trip, i've made some kids activities to keep my little champ busy, will be sharing them with you starting from next week :)

getting local products always makes my heart happy. uhm, especially when they're free - like these three.

my bestie bianca's famous choc chip cookies. yes, she's the one who made all yuara's pinatas. i still don't understand why she hasn't started her own blog yet. sigh.

fabric covered buttons by khama khama. they're so cute, i don't have the heart to use any of them.

toddler tee by babyfeits. yep, it has that hidden little mustache that yuara's crazy of. he doesn't stop flipping his tee to show off the mustache under his nose. i must say it's a pretty darn good idea! oh one more thing, you can also plant the label and it'll grow. wow.

i looove vintage canvas suitcase, don't you? this one here is by youthdew. it fits my laptop perfectly.

i also stopped by brightspot market, and brought home these - cotton ink top, skelly glasses for the husband, and bliss suede boys moccasins for the champ. don't they make you wanna shop shop shop this weekend?

keeping the kid entertained.

is never easy, especially if your kid is like mine who can only be still when asleep. even then, he usually wakes up every two hours - just like when he was still a baby. so yes, he does sleep in his own room now but only for two hours! when he wakes up in the middle of the night, he would walk into our room and crawl onto our bed. my oh my, we would have to come up with other sleeping arrangement once the baby is here. tell me, how is yours? am reaaally curious.

anyway, these among other things are what we do at home to put a smile on the champ's face. he always loves painting, playing with doughs, and story time (oh, thank god for those sticker books!) but i can never get him into coloring, he just gets bored easily. eventhough this pregnancy takes most of my energy (i still have the headache and nausea coming in my fifth month), am trying my best to make most of our quality time together. after all, in four more months there'll be four of us! hence the lack of posts, but am sure you understand. have a lovely weekend :))

on the last sunday of october, we managed to throw a birthday party for the kid. nothing fancy and big since i hadn't much energy to do any DIY lately. we were thinking of something that yuara will definitely enjoy, why not a splish splash party? so we booked the playground at kemang with its mini water park, invited his cousins, and decided on rubber ducky theme - also because yellow and orange are his favorite!

the printables are from babalisme - including the cute party hats. and my bestie bianca made that rubber ducky pinata, she also made the treasure chest pinata last year! it was really fun, the kids were fully entertained so us parents could relax and enjoy the heat. the weather was extremely hot that morning, phewww! oh, did i tell you? yuara could finally blow the candles! well not hard enough until they went off, but still! all in all, i hope everyone had a great time.. see you again in a year's time!

it was actually two days ago our baby turned to a little boy. and it was his first time celebrating at school! so the day before, we practiced blowing candles and he nailed it - but not on D day though, he was pretty surprised when my mom, mom-in-law, and me came at snack time, he lost focus. haha, oh well.. it was still reaaally nice seeing him grin ear to ear when we came :)

of course i prepared some goody bags for yuara's new classmates and teachers (he's in nursery class now, how my boy grew!) from my line. they were the blackboard-to-gos with these DIY thank you notes. you will only need sheets of black paper and a chalk to scribble, i also used the same trick for yuara's birthday cake. it was a great day... at least until we had to go and yuara immediately clung to my legs crying. oh i love you son, i really trully do. happy birthday to you!

yes i know i know, i made too many things inspired by silhouette. but what can i say, i love it to pieces! and eventhough this tutorial is long overdue (i made these two for early's wedding), i say better late than never :D

i opted for stencil technique, but had some help from my old friend ivan meirizio using the cutter pen. am reaaaally clumsy around sharp objects, ask my mom she knows better not to let me slice anything in the kitchen. well anyway, the steps are pretty simple i guess the pictures quite explain themselves. you'll only need a piece of fabric and some fabric paint, and you're good to go. have fun making one!

my son's school has this day where the kids are asked to wear some handmade fruit or veggie themed costumes. but since lately i've been spending my time in bed, i totally forgot to check yuara's monthly newsletter! hence, i just found out the day before. i frantically sewed with what we had laying around at home. sorry i didn't have the how-tos, we made it in a rush - yuara helped with the fillings, he is such a cutie!

so here was what we came up with. yuara was a grape! he loved his costume so much, he refused to take it off and wore it in his nap. so i felt like it was definitely worth it to sew in my headache :D

i haven't blogged for so so long is because... (drum rolling) am pregnant!

it's almost the same as my first pregnancy - the constant nausea and migraine, sigh. hence, i spent most of my time in bed. but this is my third month already, so hopefully one more month and i will be back to my normal self. ah, we're so excited... hope everything goes well, insha allah.

i know it's been too long since i last posted anything, but this time i have a reaaally good excuse (will write about it in another post *wink*). so last sunday was my high school best friend's wedding - you know, the one that i was responsible for? and am proud to say that all went very well. my two best friends bianca and ninnin helped me with all the decor and i don't think i can ever thank them enough.

at the end i was a bit broken hearted because i lost some of my decor props. i guess someone took them home? i just hope they will be very well taken care of *sniff*. but overall, i was pretty pleased with how it all turned out. our hard work had paid off! now, i can't wait for another wedding project :)

gocco printed pouch.

heya everyone, i know it's been so long since i last posted anything. but am back today with one exciting tuto! well at least, for me. i was smitten with gocco printing technique ever since i first laid my eyes on lia's gocco cards. so i learnt it online and begged the husband to get me the gocco machine (they are usually sold on ebay or etsy). long story short, i tried mine for making one of the anniversary picnic props. and it was unexpectedly easy!

1. make your own design. i printed mine because gocco master needs the carbon on its original design. but you can also use a photocopier or even pencil! cut your design to fit the final print size and insert the gocco master into place.

2. prepare the lamp and its two bulbs. the bulbs can only be used once, so don't forget to discard them after you press the gocco machine and it flashes. wash your hands afterwards.

3. lift the gocco machine and set aside your design. the gocco master is ready!

4. lift the transparent film to apply ink. if you want to use more than one color like i did, stick the thin sponge to separate the colors.

5. squeeze out your ink tube onto the design. next, cover it with transparent film.

6. place your inked master in the gocco machine. place the card, or in my case the pouch fabric, that you're printing on.

7. close the gocco machine and press down gently until you hear a click. tadaaa!

8. handstitch a heart on a number that means something to you. i chose 4 because it was our 4th anniversary, yeay!

9. stitch your fabric into a pouch. find the how-tos online, it really is easy! 11. fill in the love and some goodies. the finished products are available here. hope you had fun, see you around folks!

apple pie in a jar tuto.

remember the apple pie in a jar from our anniversary picnic? its recipe had been going on the internet for quite some time now. since i don't bake, i thought making one would be complicated. but not if you cheated with frozen puff pastry sheets bought at local grocery store! for the fillings, you can find various recipe on the blogland but i just used what we got in the kitchen - apple, raisin, vanilla powder, rhum, butter, sugar, and cinnamon. next you only need to squeeze the sheet into a jar, then pour in the fillings.

i only baked a jar and saved the other two in the freezer for another time. i thought it tasted okay, but the husband liked it a lot - am just glad he's so easy to please :D

i saw this first at oh! crafts and i thought what a good idea to make some nice bookmark for the husband. you only need long strip of fabric, a button (giant one preferably), rubber letter stamps, stamp pad, and of course needle and thread. next step, simply stamp and stitch.

the ink turned out to look quite subtle but i love it! beside bookmark, i used my stamped fabric to wrap around the pouch. i must say it looked pretty good :)

i think love message doesn't always have to be written on a piece of paper. you can stamp it on some fabric or write it with chalk on my writer's block. right? have a lovely weekend, everyone!

anniversary picnic.

so yesterday was our 4th anniversary. i was going to blog last night, but fell asleep out of the euphoria. i prepared everything days before, so when it was finally over all i wanted to do was sleep :D anyways, i wanted to do something special this year so instead of giving a gift, am throwing a full event for the husband. i was very much inspired by birthday party in a box you are my fave, found via oh happy day.

what i put in:

did you see the origami tulips? my dear man did those. i asked for something handmade so that's what he came up with. he even taught me the how-to steps, oh am so proud of him! for the menu, i ordered some cupcakes from minilovebites - the berry strawberry ones are awesomely good! but i also made something myself, that apple pie in a jar and the husband loved it. since some goodies are handmade and homemade by yours truly, i will be making separate posts about them later on. meanwhile, am just going to savour the leftovers. life is gooooood!

a silly socks surprise farewell party.

one of my dearest friend cheeqa (also known as 'silly cow') is leaving for brussel, belgium. she will be stationed there for three whole years! sob.. so me and alia decided to throw her a surprise party at my house. alia would be doing the menu and me the decor. we already had the plan for a month but alas, i didn't find the right party theme until the week before when i found it somewhere on the internet. so off i went for socks hunting, i also contacted dita cemprut for some silly sock dolls and puri ideku handmade for some silly sock cookies - not forgetting the socks garland and of course our dress code: silly socks. i love love love how it turned out!

i prepared everything for sock puppet making activity, but we ended up chatting, reminiscing old times, and laughing so much that we all forgot about it. but if you were gonna make the same themed party, i truly think making sock puppets is a very good idea! anyways i hope you had fun cheeqs, we all wuv you lots :*

two weeks ago, the in-laws gave us a voucher to stay in mandarin oriental hotel with bundaran HI view. i had stayed at mandarin before but not since they had their huge renovation. now their room is beyond nice, i love the color combo of pale cream and vert green i had to take tons of picture. and their wallpaper is very indonesian, don't you think? i also promised the husband that someday we will reupholster our sofa once again with a mixture of brown and denim just like theirs. very manly i must say, so of course the husband nodded hard :D

it was yuara's first experience of walking around bundaran HI and riding trans jakarta busway. the last one he didn't quite enjoy as it was fully packed so we only rode for one stop. since my late office was in the same area, we went for a culinary trip down memory lane - queen's tandoor (i think they have the best indian food in jakarta), kedai pelangi (their mie titi is super yum yum), and ya udah bistro (i can never get enough of veal bratwursts). oh i can't wait for yuara to be able to ride his own bicycle so we all can do this all over again on bikes, i think it'll be more fun!

my old best friend contacted me yesterday, she's going to be married and am really happy for her. she had one request though, she wanted me to do the decor. i instantly panicked! she had so much faith in me that i didn't have for myself it touches me. so i sent her a few links to find out what she would like, one of them is this wedding. i have it in my folder for quite some time - a wedding inspired by disney pixars UP movie, found via wedding chicks. i have always loved disney and pixars combo, and to have them translated in a wedding is priceless.

just perfect, isn't it? colorful balloons, pale yellow house, grape soda pins, hand-printed mail box, picnic blankets...my, oh my. don't forget to take a peek at UP engagement shoot here. now, i don't know if i have the guts to throw a wedding, but am quite sure this theme could also be applied in regular parties. heck, i want one!

i know am nowhere near a good blogger this month, i must admit i got a little too carried away with work and life lately. so am paying it back today, this easy (yet pretty) tutorial was made especially for you!

like always, the steps here quite explain themselves, don't you think? for the silhouette tute, please click here but at the end, trace your silhouette onto felt instead of paper. sew them on some other colored felts, then you can handstitch the silhouettes to vintage hankie or just use as coasters. the possibilities are really endless! and i do think they make a fine weekend project too - so have a crafty weekend, dear you :)

oh am just so proud to see what my little boy has become. he has grown so much since january, when we first enrolled him to school. all those first days drama finally paid off i guess :P
yuara on father's day - the dresscode was what daddy wears. and eventhough the husband hardly wears a tie, i thought it would be a nice touch to do so. hence, this batik tie from sewmanics.
yuara at graduation day's performance. i was worried that the stage might scare him, but he got up there, clapped his hands, jumped, danced, and waved to the audience. ha! ha! i know i know, sometimes mothers worry too much..

i was going to make separate posts about these (mostly were done on weekend) projects but lately time is not on my side - uhm, has it ever? anyways, these are what i'd been doing that kept me from posting :P

gift boxes for our president SBY and crew, ordered by jakarta punya! for jakarta tanpa kantong plastik campaign. everything was reusable - i combined tulle with batik as its wrap and afterwards, it can also be used as tablecloth!
patchwork picnic blanket and or tablecloth, ordered by our lovely neighbour lila.

wired batik frame to hang some photos, ordered by saphirandini and ratna.

cinnamon apple bread and butter pudding, ordered by my hungry husband for breakfast.
potato stencils, well the kid didn't actually order for these but he did have a good time printing them onto white cardboard.

silhouette fans and button bobby pins, i made these for my friend ratna's surprise baby shower - prepared by her sweet husband ardhi. they're having a boy, hence the color baby blue.

last but not least, this one is totally out of subject. but i've been thinking to let go of my lomo camera for a while now, mainly because i never used it anymore since my fuji instax came along. to be honest, i have only used it twice so am selling it for 450K. if you're interested, please leave a comment and i'll get back to you pronto. ta-ta for now ;)

finally! sorry it took me soooo long to post our vacation pics. it's just that lately yuara tends to get sick more often - they all say that's what happens in your child's first year of school. but still, no likey! if only i could be ill for him instead, i'd do it in a heartbeat. i bet all of you mothers out there can feel me, eh? anyway, we had fuuuun in bali. this time we hung out much in all sort of beaches. it was oh-so-relaxing... who knew five days weren't enough for us? next time we're doing a week! yes husband, you heard it right :D
so we did another round of jenggala's paint-a-pot. the bowl was nicely done by the champ! (see my first here and our second here).
and we went to the waterbom for the very first time. quite entertaining i must say.
i felt like i could stay all day long at potato head beach club. it was heaven filled with danish furnitures!
we went to padang-padang beach as well. did you know this is where the scene of julia roberts swimming in eat, pray, love took place? i realized i already visited this place before, back in the early 2000s! (and yes, those narrow steps is the entryway).

we also found a place (and instantly fell in love with it) called karma kandara. it's a private beach off a cliff so we had to take a monorail to reach the shore. it was beyond words! i've never seen a beach so beautiful in my entire life - and believe me, i am a beach girl. i strongly recommend those of you who travel with children to stop by this beach. this is the only place i let my kid roam free, others make me worry so much.
uhm okay, these are what i brought home from our trip - pretty same as last year's: biasa blouse, pusaka balinese batik, local dress, and sandals. OMG, I MISS BALI ALREADY!

we went to puncak for two days, and it sure was a lot of fun! we made it to taman safari and boy, how it changed so much since the last time i went there (i was probably six at the time). they now have this baby zoo and a boom boom car ride that made my baby excited - oh do please ignore his facial expression, he was always like that trying out new things.

and of course, we had to ride a horse while we were there. afterall, what's puncak without horse riding, eh? we also stopped by at rumah abia on our way home, my friend dita told me about this place. Y was ecstatic, he went straight to painting a wooden truck and played with it right after. as soon as we reached home, i did some cutting to his overgrown curls. well, i wanted him to look good for tomorrow's trip to bali :)))

it's been a while since the champ and i did an art project together, so yesterday i decided to pull out my beloved acrylic paint set from the bookshelf and go wild!
Y pointed out the colors and got their name right, then he helped himself squirting the tubes onto his brush. i drew all kind of shapes per his request so he could paint them with the colors of his choosing. oh, i so wish he enjoys painting as much as i did because it's so much FUN!

a masterpiece by bravacasa's team. indra febriansyah (pictured here) is my ex workmate, we were both announcers at Hard Rock FM bandung back in the days. i must say this one is my favorite - i love the rustic look and above all, j'adore the swimming goldfishes inside that tall vase.

so by now, you must've already guessed. this one is mine, and i think it suits my style very well. am always vintage at heart, hence i came up with the concept of celebrating 8th birthday party at granny's living room. i like how it felt personal. i brought that huge frame that acted as imaginary mirror. i tried placing everything symmetrically (yea, that's the perfectionist in me talking) and i put lotsa lotsa details. i remembered thinking, is it too much? but instantly decided, i love it that way. anyway, which one is your favorite? you can vote for any of us (please be me :P) at breadtalk indonesia's facebook page. happy voting and have a great weekend, everyone!

is what easter all about. or so i thought. you see, back when i was a kid my mother liked taking us to easter parties eventhough we don't celebrate the holiday. i still remember how much fun i had finding the hidden eggs and decorated them afterwards. i even dressed up for the pics!

so that's the only explanation to my being MIA (yesss, missing-in-action). well okay, that and a couple of other things in between :D anyway, last week my bestie bianca asked me to be a last minute stand-in to her event and of course i said yes (so she'll have to do me a favor next time, ha!). i was asked to make something inspired by camper. it was quite easy since they have such strong concepts for their shoe line. i decided to prepare frames with shoe laces, blackboards, and black blocks made from left over material (just like their hybrid series). but i left the black boards plain purposefully to encourage visitors doodling any thought they had at the time - because you know, one simplest idea may build the most extraordinary crafts!

it was supposedly a three-man-show, but at the end it turned out i didn't actually have to replace anyone. so there was four of us - Ria Sarwono & Carline Darjanto (Cotton Ink), Raiki (Hunting Fields), Hadi Cahyono (photographer), and moi. our artworks will be auctioned and donated for charity. and in return, we'd get camper shoes for free (in my case, two). oh, yes please...

the event went smooth, the host was my childhood buddy Dana Maulana and the band (High Time Rebellion) was my friend's. i was exhausted but ecstatic knowing that someone already bid high for my artwork not long before the show started. but if you're interested no worries, the auction won't be closed until this sunday. so go ahead try your luck, remember it's for charity ;)

i know am reaaally behind on posting lately. i blame deadlines that wouldn't stop popping up... and my time management :P anyway two sundays ago, my friend monique natalia was having a birthday party for her son radheya and opted for a pocoyo theme. i jumped in to help a bit with the decor, and here's what i came up with.

i interpreted pocoyo's paper lantern garland with what i have lying around the house. i substituted the lack of lantern with handmade bunting from yuara's first birthday party. well, enough with the explanation already, here's the how-to steps...

last weekend was yuara's first event at school. well, of course the parents were ecstatic! we finally got to see what he was doing for the last three months. after weeks of tears (him at school, and me at home - please forgive the drama as we were used to being together 24/7), yuara finally enjoys his time with all the new friends and teachers at school. now, he doesn't even look back when i drop him off and am all smiles.

since he loooves playdough so much, i chose clay pottery class over my own passion (yep, they were having batik class as well). yuara was only interested in making one single star, so his mother had to finish the whole bowl. but if i didn't tell you that, you can't really see that it was made by a 30-year-old now, can you? ha. ha. i know it's baaad :P

that's what we did last weekend! i experimented with the pancake batter, adding sliced bananas and dash of cinnamon before pouring it onto the pan. i also added lots of icing sugar to his liking and scoop of oma anna's strawberry jam to mine. we had a cute view, yuara in his aqua pjs :)

and i had time to play with my new toy: the corner cutter, recently bought at toko gunung agung. i was going to order a similar one on etsy the other day! oh, thank god i waited.

speaking of toy, what's monkeying around without a real sock monkey? i've been meaning to make it myself, but what can i say am such a lazy crafter so i opted to buy this from cemprut instead. i think hers are even better than mine will ever be, especially with that flower brooch from sibebo, see?

my brother finally has his own xbox room by getting rid some junks in one of the unused room at our mother's house. the junks were our favorite toys and games when we were still young and innocent :p i tried to teach yuara how to match these cards and ended up playing myself.

speaking of junks, i also find these logs on our way home. there was this abandoned piece of land that we passed by almost every day and the trees there were recently cut. so we made a stop and asked politely to take home some of the logs. and they were given to us for free! i feel like telling yuara, 'that my son, is what you get for being polite.' oh, i sense another DIY logs project coming up!

how come i never thought of this when throwing my own birthday party? am always fond of puppet theater, so bringing it to life would be the rightest thing to do, right? am definitely stealing eunice & daniel james' wedding idea (found via martha stewart weddings and because we can) inspired by images from photographer tim walker.

now, i want the exact same wooden stage and animal props. and i also think custom play cards would make great goody bags (especially to my college girls). i must say the wedding is nicely done! don't you agree with me on this?

to make a kid (bebo), a mother (mamo), a father (papo), an uncle (pepi), and a grandmother (yani) happy. last week's one night stay in bandung proved to be effective in putting us in our most relaxed mode - oh yes, we are that easy to please.
the trip was yani's early birthday present, so we did a lot of swimming, eating, and shopping (not necessarily in that order and not everyone did swim :D). but am sure each of us did gain weight, well if not us in person then our baggage at the very least. i found this cute shop bestcare that sells quilted everything and of course i stop by tobucil to meet tarlen and snatch one of her fab creation. all in all, it was fun and am looking forward to another getaway some time soon.

was last monday. well not the actual school though, more like a playgroup really. but still, i think the kid has grown up too fast. too fast i say. even so, am quite surprised that i wasn't all tears when i sat around and wait by his classroom window. guess am a grown mother too now :D
anyway, monday was fine. the husband and i were there and he was still very excited from exploring the whole classroom (see him in the back? exactly). but tuesday? not so much. his teacher told me that after a while, yuara started to look for me and by the end of the day, he cried. my heart breaks a little. oh, if only i could sit you through everything kid *sniff.

silhouette tutorial.

so this is my latest project and am really excited to share it with you. see, i've been totally inspired by rnbeth's silhouettes of our little family - yes, they're the ones i hang in our entryway - i vowed to learn to make one myself. and i did, it's quite simple actually. it started with an order from ary mia for pilar's birthday. she requested some customized frames and i offered to make along her son's silhouette (oh, how i love a client who frees me to do anything i want!).

1. you need to print a black and white picture of your subject.

2. find the perfect place for a backlit effect. windows work so well.

3. start tracing the outer line of your subject's profile.

4. fill in the inner space with regular marker, black preferably.

5. scan your almost-there silhoutte and add the subject's name.

6. put your silhouette into a frame, and you're done! or you think you are. hold on a sec, i wanted to share these too - some tips on making lids for the plastic goody bags out of fabric scraps.

7. you will need used cardboard like cereal box, but a new one will also work. cut them up according to your goody bag's measurement.

8. use double tape to stick the cardboard pieces onto the scraps.
9. remove the fabric excess by trimming the edge neatly. 10. and you're FINALLY done. now, how do you get rid of this big stupid grin on my face? am so proud of the result. hope you like them too, pilar :D

NYE party.

it's 2011, people! how was your new year eve's party? we had lots and lots of fun! we had this tradition of spending our NYE with the husband's high school gang watching horror DVD. because am such a chicken, this year i found a great way to distract the show with some photo sessions (of course sadly, not many of them were distracted).

thanks to the free printable lips by ami of living locurto, tux shirt on cardboard by jessica jones of how about orange, mini top hat by shala kerrigan of don't eat the paste, and some leftover staches, brows, and glasses from our last party, i didn't have to stay in front of the TV screaming with pillows (notice i wrote pillows with capital S!) on my face. brrrilliant idea, i should've thought about this sooner! anyway, it was a good night and i found it way better in the morning when i received this set from cecillia hidayat. what a nice way to start off the new year :)

it's been a wonderful year. i've gained so much, so it's only natural if i lost some too - just yesterday. but i won't bore you with details, am just glad that the most valuable things in my life are still here: the kid. the husband. the whole family.

am so ready to leave 2010 behind and welcome 2011 ahead. hope it's a better year for all of us. cheers to that!

to the three of us yesterday. yea i know, yesterday was supposedly mother's day in indonesia, but i thought it's no fun celebrating myself (as i am the mother in our little house) since the two boys play a huge part in making me one :) so instead, i suggested the husband that we should all celebrate by exchanging surprise gifts! and not just any gift, we agreed to buy things that we want others wear whether they like it or not.
i must say it's extremely easy with yuara. we decided to give him this sofa made out of my marimekko fabric (again, thanks tante intan!). not just because we want him to, but mostly because he loves all my sofas (he had to sit in each and every one of them before they were sold and shipped). and am still waiting to get him this by ayang cempaka!

for the husband, i'd really like to see him in these. they're far from his signature style, but i can picture him wearing them with his fave shorts. plus, the shoes are sooo comfy (no need to justify yourself there, mesh! :D). i was going to add one bottle neck tie but our printer broke down just in time. anyway, he gave me this bolero. i love them - which is why i think he cheats! i just lost my beloved bolero due to moving in last february and i used to have that kind in the earlier days when we first dated. all in all, i heart exchanging gifts for some silly reason ;)

DIY fabric tape + gift wrap.

for those of you who celebrate xmas or just build a tradition to exchange gifts for silly reason like me (more on that later!), i found a way to make use of leftover fabrics you have and decorate your present at the same time. you will only need scraps, double tape, and scissor - like, really!

i figured there are two ways to finish off your fabric tape. you can cut the tape and reglue another fabric next time, or you can simply stick a totally different fabric all the way.
finally, i have all the right reason to use free printable thread bobbins by wild olive. aren't they the cutest things? but you can also use a tissue or paper towel roll painted in your favorite color :)

inspired by lace tape that sibebo bought, i purchased mine at gramedia bookstore. combine it with your fabric tape and some pom poms to make the prettiest gifts for your loved ones. happy wrapping!

the weekend passed us by. it was a good one, though. started with islamic new year fair held in my neighbourhood, yuara got his first coloring trophy - he won third place out of three contestants (ha ha ha!) and made his way on the catwalk for the very first time (eventhough he had to hold on to my mother's iPhone to keep him going).
i downloaded and printed the award ribbon by inspired bride for fashion show participants and my ex boss. reine just resigned recently, so we threw her a surprise farewell party with graduation day theme.

at first, i wanted to make the graduation cap from scratch but didn't find the time (classic, classic!), thank goodness i found the pattern by disney family fun. so i printed that on lovely south africa toile art paper as seen on my previous post. don't they match the certificate made by my girl ivy aralia perfectly? yea, i thought so too.

we also threw a polaroid potluck party for my dear friends and it went super grrreat! i printed out this hillarious disguise kit by jen allyson over at design house digital and while i was cooking, i made the guests cut and double tape them. so once we finished dinner, it was time to go crazy with my fuji instax 200 (here taken with poladroid). we laughed hard, it really was the highlight of my week :)

the first time i saw this wedding of max and margaux found via once wed, i was stunned. if only i knew then what i know now - it's exactly how i wanted mine. full of DIYs and love (like, literally). it was held on the backyard too! perfect, just perfect.

now tell me, who can take their eyes off such a beauty? i can stare at this post for hours, excuse me, i mean days. or is it too much if i say years?

uhm, i too bought new year presents for myself: beaded necklace from alun-alun indonesia, sunglasses from forever 21, and three tiered brooch from WIC charity bazaar - i added my vintage brooch to copy elva field's signature look (if only i could buy one). love, love, love!

holiday diy.

i posted about this peacock headband a while back, but never the tutorial. for those of you who wonder (or not), it is really simple and eaaasy. you will only need some felt, covered buttons, and elastic band to start this project.

at first, i stitched them altogether but it was more time consuming, so i suggest you to use glue gun instead. and there you have it. told you it was eaaasy ;)
